UCLA:
We
generally teach no more than twenty-five students per Masters/Mate
class at the University. The University provides an on campus
classroom depending on the size of the class. The classrooms
are much larger than called for by the USCG. The classrooms
are provided with large and ample conference tables. They
are clean, well maintained with all proper fire doors, etc.

UCLA

CSA:
At
the California Sailing Academy our main classroom is 432
square feet. We will be teaching no more than 10 students
when using this facility. The facilities are well maintained
with four doors, aisles, large fold out desks along the
walls, and portable tables.
STUDENT / TEACHER RATIO:
The
student/teacher ratio will never exceed twenty five students
to one instructor for the OUPV/Master/Mate courses.
INSTRUCTOR
EXPERIENCE:
The
Instructor Paul J. Miller graduated in the top ten percent
from the United States Naval Academy Annapolis. After several
years at sea he returned to the Academy as an Instructor
at the Academy's request. Paul taught Celestial Navigation
at the Los Angeles Griffith Park Observatory for numerous
years to 750 people a class. He has taught Marine Science
subjects at UCLA and CSA for over 20 years and has written
books and many articles on Celestial. Paul writes the Celestial
Navigation Exams for the American Sailing Association (ASA)
and is a well known authority on the subject of Celestial
Navigation. He holds the highest Instructor rating available,
Offshore Passagemaking, with the ASA and teaches students
on extended sailing trips. His long Offshore Class generally
a 1000 miles or more, uses Celestial Navigation exclusively.
